noun: a fund that simultaneously invests in offsetting projects while encouraging sustainable development in communities in the developing world. The trademarked 'social carbon' concept upgrades ordinary 'international offsets' (voluntary carbon credits originated in the developing world) into higher quality, or premium, credits because they represent improvements in the economic, environmental and social fabric of local communities in the third-world.
